Buyers flocked to the Goulburn Recreation Area to grab a fowl at a bargain price and there were some very fine birds on offer.
Goulburn Poultry Fanciers Society spokesperson Margaret Clarke said it was a very big turnout with about 300 people in attendance.
“We had over 1200 pens and about 1000 birds on auction here today, making it one of the largest I can recall,” she said.
“There have all been going for really good prices - some are going for $60 each.”
Society president Greg Clarke showed me around and introduced me to some of the birds.
“Chickens are very popular with people,” he said.
“The society has over 4000 buyers and 45 registered members. It is a vibrant club and one of biggest in NSW.
“We hold six auctions a year and as well as one pure bred auction on top of the Goulburn Show.”
