Finch started playing Rugby Union with the Fizzy Reds and when he was 16 for Wollongong.
When he was in his final year at Goulburn High he was invited to play with Daramalan College in Canberra and was selected for the NSW Schools side too. That year NSW finished third to Victoria.
The flanker was awarded a contract to play Shute Shield Rugby with Southern Districts in 2016, a move he eagerly accepted.
The club’s offer came with the opportunity to become an apprentice plumber and to share a house with two other Southern Districts players.
“I really like the culture at the club,” Finch said. “This is my second season with Southern Districts and they really focus on our overall development on and off the playing field.
“The apprenticeship means that I will have a worthwhile career after rugby and the training is directed toward looking after our physical and mental well-being. Ultimately, if I don’t get selected in a senior team I will look for an opportunity in the England.
“I am really grateful to my local sponsors, Fife’s Stock Feeds, for their help.”
Last week, Finch presented Cheryl Fife with a Southern Districts training shirt when he picked up his cheque.
