The centre is based at the Early Intenvention Unit at Wollondilly Public School and it provides intervention services for children with developmental delays from birth until they turn eight.
Wendy was appointed CEO back in 2008 and she says over that time she has enjoyed and valued being part of a team that works around children.
“I have also found it to be a privilege to walk beside parents and carers in their journey for their children,” Mrs Allen said.
“Someone said to me recently that life is precious. So is the work with special children and their families.
She said over the years, there has been a lot of changes in dealing with physical and behavioural issues in children.
“There has also been a lot of travel around the region because My Direction works over four local government areas - Goulburn Mulwaree, Upper Lachlan, Yass Valley and parts of Queaneyan. It has been a part of our objectives to help overcome distance issues for families who use the service.”
She has also been involved in helping to obtain the Therapy Room at the Yass early Childhood Centre Association.
She said she was going to stay actively involved with the community during her retirement.
“I plan to keep active in the community – I have joined the make a Wish Committee and the Goulburn and District Historical Society. I am also an ongoing member of the local Knitters’ Guild,” she said.
Chair of the Board of My Direction Fred Rainger said Wendy’s contribution has been very influential in early intervention circles and she is well-respected in the sector.
“She has overseen many changes in the time that she has been the CEO,” Mr Rainger said.
A function to farewell Wendy and to recognise her work on February 10 at the Goulburn Soldiers Club at 6:30 for 7pm. For more information contact Fiona Orford on 48223527 or 0439455966 email fiona.orford@mydirection.org.au or Fred Rainger 0427705086.
