The blaze broke out at about 12.30pm beside the highway’s southbound lane, some 3km from Goulburn’s southern exit. It travelled up into nearby paddocks, burning two hectares and threatening a house and a limited number of stock in a paddock.
Three RFS crews from Parkesbourne, two from Mulwaree Support and two private vehicles were quickly on the scene and managed to stop the fire 50 metres away from a house. Six rams in the paddock ran into another paddock.
The owners had slashed land last October, minimising fuel load.
The fire broke out almost opposite the Parkesbourne Road turnoff. Police were also on scene but there was no disruption to traffic. It has been controlled and at ‘advice’ level.
