These first events are known as the slack events and include the junior barrel racing, roping and others that lead into the main events, including the open rough riding, which starts about 4pm.
This is the Goulburn Charity Rodeo Club’s 49th annual rodeo and it promises to be a big one with more sideline attractions, a great lineup of award winning and novice competitors, as well as the juniors. Novice bull riders will be competing for the prestigious Wayne Robson Memorial Buckle and there is also a special prize buckle for the winning over-40 bull rider.
Goulburn Rodeo Club used to run a campdraft on the Saturday and rodeo on the Sunday, but now Goulburn has a separate campdraft club. The rodeo club recently donated money it had set aside for campdraft facilities to the Goulburn Campdraft and its facilities out near Goulburn Airport. Campdraft Club president Campbell Boileau said they were grateful to the Rodeo Club, which has similar aims to them in supporting the community. “We have used the money to purchase a pump and tank for providing water for the livestock and horses at our grounds,” he said. “We are looking at ways to improve our facilities and this money has been put to good use.”
Goulburn Rodeo Club is expecting a large audience at Saturday’s rodeo and reminds those attending not to block the view of other patrons by tying shade cloths and tarps to the ring or erecting gazebos in front of the seating. Gazebos can only be erected at the back of the hill on the eastern side of the ground backing onto the fence. Patrons are also reminded that there is no BYO alcohol allowed. There will be plenty of food and drinks available and the club has a bar serving alcoholic beverages.
Parkesbourne Rural Fire Brigade will be running the barbecue, with Tirranna Public School Parents &Citizens on the gate. Entry: $15 adults (over 16); $10, 7-16 years; free for 6 and under; $40 family. The rodeo will end about 10pm under lights with the final round of the open bull ride.
