Council staffers have prepared the grounds.
An army of volunteers has set up the pavilion and the wide variety of livestock exhibit rings.
The Show office has been a hive of activity.
Show President Frank Hannan said, “A highlight I think for this year will be the fresh food and produce hub with 10 stalls.”
He also mentioned that donations of eggs, zucchini, pumpkin, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, potatoes and capsicum for the show kitchen would be most gratefully accepted, as would any slices that you might happen to whip up!
Gates open at 2pm for the trots on Saturday, a free family event.
Family and friends of the late John Clancy will be on hand for dedication of his memorial seat at about 3.30pm before the first race.
PATRON AT MEETING
Gunning Garden Club members were delighted that the club’s patron, Mrs Marjorie Basnett was present at their first meeting for 2017, held at the home of Col and Rhonda Ogilvie.
Centenarian Mrs Basnett was in good form and happily greeted members as they sat down next to her for a chat.
The Club will hold its Annual General Meeting at the Foley Centre, March 12 at 2pm.
This is a great time to join the club which has a number of activities planned for the coming year.
These include the Friendship Day at Riversdale, Goulburn on March 14 where the guest speaker will be the president of Garden Clubs of Australia.
Send RSVPs to club secretary by March 1. A visit to the Botanic Gardens on April 9 is also planned.
GUNNING TREASURE HUNT!
It started with local fossicker Michael Brown unearthing an old trophy with the words “GDSAAA Champ Girl under 6 J Lees” on it and then went viral on local social media. The suggestions poured in on who this might be with memories being searched for clues.
Gunning District Historical Association’s Greg Murphy found the relevant Trove article from The Goulburn Evening Post of November 2, 1954.
It mentions J Lees as well as many others with well-known district surnames. Hopefully the identity of then under 6 year-old lass, J Lees, will soon be revealed.
