This was also the first round to the Club Championships and riders were looking for quick times on the out and back course, competing against the clock in the race of truth.
Starting at Brisbane Grove Road, riders departed at 30 second intervals over the Gundary Plain past the airport to the turnaround at Bullamalita Road.
With a westerly blowing across the course and no peloton in which to hide, the 22 kilometres was not going to be an easy Sunday morning recovery ride.
Cameron Roberts tore up the course smashing the 30-minute barrier and posted a time of 28 minutes 40 seconds at 46km/hr to take out A Grade. Riley Fleming finished second in 32:04 at 41km/hr.
Time Trial specialist Neils Laugesen easily won B Grade in 31:45 at 41km/hr from Ironman Jason Pattison and Gavin Moroney third.
The closest race of the evening was in C Grade with Mark Stutchbury winning by a second over Wayne Bensley.
Chris Berry held off Anthony Field to take out third place.
“Mr Consistent”, Ted Goad, won D Grade in 41:35 from Tony Wade, second and Chris Bushell, third.
Big thank you to the volunteers: Mrs Bush, Phil, Tony O, Tony N, Bluey, Alan and Glen.
Next Wednesday evening racing is at Breadalbane for a Graded Scratch race and the second round of the Championships. Sign on is at 6pm at the church. Racing starts at 6.30pm. New riders are welcome.
