Crowds poured through the gates as the weather stayed sunny and cool.
Family-friendly events such as trotting, yard dog trials, a patting paddock and treasure hunt were all well attended.
Reports from all events were positive with one happy patron on social media saying, “A huge thanks to all involved in running the show this weekend. Very successful day with loads to look at and things to do!”
But it wasn’t easy.
The tragedy of the previous few days hung over everyone with Saturday taking an emotional toll particularly on those who were close friends of the Basnett family.
However there was a Show to run on Sunday and run it we did.
Like ducks swimming on a pond, it looked effortless but under the surface people worked extra hard to do what needed doing, keeping the grief at bay.
For many visitors to the Show, the day provided the opportunity to share memories of their deceased friends and there were hugs aplenty.
But as the day wound down and committee members and volunteers gathered for a quiet drink at the bar, emotions rose to the surface.
Gunning PA&I Society President Frank Hannan gave heartfelt thanks to his team – they held it together and they worked together to run a very successful event under an extraordinary pall of sadness.
Frank was rightly proud of each and everyone.
