Seventy per cent of the workforce are employed locally (in 12,500 jobs) that are mainly in health care and social assistance, retail, public administration or safety industries.
These are just some of the fascinating statistics that can be accessed in seconds, courtesy of a new demographic website tool available to all residents.
The website uses Census data (from 2001 to 2011) to depict social, demographic and economic trends in the community. The 2016 Census data will be incorporated in June.
Such information may be handy for businesses wishing to relocate here, as well as students or those who are just interested in how the area is changing. The website was demonstrated in a session on Friday in the Council Chambers as part of Back to Business Week.
Glenn Capuano, from Informed Decisions, who designed the website, said the information was broken down into four tools: a community profile; a social atlas; an economic profile; and population forecasts. The forecasts will not be live for another week.
“Everyone can access this information once a council subscribes to it," Mr Capuano said. “I can use the tool to instantly find out what people in a local government area do, how they live, in what type of house and what their median incomes and ages are. There is also migration data, such as where new residents are coming from.”
Informed Decisions built the website, which 250 councils across Australia use.
Mr Capuano said the website was a snapshot in seconds.
“Say I was a childcare operator looking to relocate to this area. I can see from this website how many infants and young children there are here and also what the population forecast says about how many there will be in future,” he said.
“That way I can make an informed decision about whether to relocate my businesses here.”
