Reigning Australian Superbike Champion Troy Herfoss on the number 1 Crankt Protein Team Honda Racing machine has taken pole position in qualifying at Wakefield Park on Saturday March 18, edging out rival Yamaha rider Wayne Maxwell who will start number two on the grid.

The news is even more exciting for locals as young rider, Tom Toparis had also claimed a pole position start in the Motul Australian Supersport race on his home track.

Toparis on the number 7 Cube Racing Kawasaki ZX6R edged out Triumph 675R rider Mark Chiodo in qualifying on Saturday afterenoon. Sitting in third and fourth are Sam Muldoon on a Kawasaki ZX6R and Ted Cillins on a Suzuki GSX-R.

Red flags at the start of qualifying forced riders to change from slicks to wet weather tyres. just as the session was getting underway.

Herfoss recorded his pole winning time of 58.096 seconds on lap 15 of 21.

Yamaha Racing Team's Wayne Maxwell almost managed to pip Herfoss for the fastest time of 58.140 just .044 of a second short.

Privateer Cru Halliday on the Yamaha Finance, YZF-R1 was also out to impress, clocking 58.237 seconds.

Daniel Falzon on the JD Racing, Yamaha, YZF-R1 finished on four and in a strong position to defend his championship lead.

Josh Waters on the Team Suzuki Ecstar, GSX-R1000 sits on number five, tomorrow.

Local Goulburnians are encouraged to head out to Wakefield Park tomorrow, Sudnay March 19 to watch our local riders do battle with the top riders from around Australia, some with international experience in what should be some ver exciting racing on the 2.2km track.
