The first grade grand final is scheduled as a two-day game played over March 25 and 26 with the Saturday start scheduled for 1pm and Sunday to start at noon.
Second and third grade grand finals will be one-day games played on Saturday only.
All games should be highly competitive, or at least they shape up that way on paper, but the biggest threat to three games of close and entertaining cricket will be the weather.
In first grade, Hibo Gold and Workers Stags will meet again, which promises a blockbuster of a clash, with matches this season between the two rivals split at two games each.
The grand final looms as the decider and will probably go to the team who is the hungrier for success and plays the best tactical game in the field and when batting.
Hibo Gold were undefeated premiers last year and Stags are the one-day premiers this season, plus minor premiers.
Hibo Gold won the major semi final convincingly, so the form guide of each team gives them genuine claims to the title.
When you throw into the mix the fact that both teams boast seven Goulburn representative players each, it clearly is difficult to pick a winner.
Commiserations must go to Coolavin Young Guns, who made last week’s final against Stags, only to be washed out and not get onto the field.
Young Guns have had a good year, though, with a developing young team and will, I’m sure, look back on their season as successful; spoilt mostly by the weather!
The second grade rematch is between Railway Bowlo and Super Stags and again promises a quality match with both teams bristling with potential match winners. Again, like first grade, minor premiers Super Stags were rolled by Bowlo in the major semi final. Bowlo have the player capacity to repeat the dose, but Super Stags will come back hard so this is another excellent match and yours truly is staying out of predicting a winner. It really could go either way.
Commiserations to Stags White, who fell victim to the weather in the final: a very disappointing way to end the season.
The third grade grand final is a battle of the Colts, with minor premiers Hibo Colts out for revenge over major semi winners Coolavin Colts. This match again is a genuine case of who dares wins. Commiserations to Hibo Gold in this grade, who had their chance washed away in the big wet.
The Bureau of Meteorology prediction was for rain increasing on Saturday.
Let’s hope they are wrong!
