The activities focus on local history, family history, geography, science and art.
The program, created by a locally based retired assistant principal, recently received praise from Janelle Patatoukos, Assistant Principal of Bradfordville Public School.
“Last term we planned an excursion to the Goulburn Waterworks as it tied in perfectly with the stage one science unit on water,” said Ms Patatoukos.
“After contacting Goulburn Mulwaree Council to enquire about the excursion I was put in touch with Julie Elliot.
“Julie is a former assistant principal who was in charge of coordinating our excursion. She was extremely helpful and had great ideas for organising appropriate activities that tied in perfectly with our science unit.”
Waterworks Museum Officer Julianne Salway encouraged other schools to take advantage of the program.
“The Waterworks is a fantastic local resource that we hope other schools will take advantage of. Why not spend a day at the Historic Waterworks instead of travelling to Sydney or Canberra,” Ms Salway said.
All activities are linked to the NSW Board of Studies curriculums, and are fully guided by Museum staff and volunteers. Schools attending are asked to provide a donation for the program that goes towards upkeep of the site, and the educational program will include a tour of the Pumphouse Museum.
The Waterworks is also fortunate to be situated in a beautiful natural environment, where students can enjoy morning tea or lunch and ‘let off some steam’ in the playground.
