THOMAS McALISTER
Historical records show that Charles McAlister (1791-1861) married Ellen Davidson (1791-1874). Their first son was Thomas Lesley (1818-1889); their fifth son was Phillip Joseph (1859-1901). Thomas McAlister owned 2,000 acres in the district. His son, Thomas Lesley drew stone for the construction of his father’s house in 1874. His father lived there until he died in 1902. Thomas Ignatious and Phillip bought the property from their brothers. Thomas Ignatious married Honora Anderson and lived in the house.
Captain Lachlan McAlister in 1833 owned 2,000 acres. Charles McAlister, a kinsman, migrated with his wife and family of three boys and two girls and worked for Lachlan but disagreed on his treatment of convicts and moved to Carrabungla but later returned. His son, Charles, wrote “Pioneering Days of the Sunny South”. He also owned the Strathaird Inn.
The family was: Thomas Lesley (1818-1902) married Anne McDonald; Charles W. (1820-1908) married Margaret Agnes Croke; Mary Therese (1822-1898); William Turner (1833-1919) married Ellen Barry. William and Ellen reared – Charles (1862-1918); Thomas (1863-1918); Coleta (1867-1924) Sister Stanislaus; William (1869); Michael (1871); Clotilda (1873-1888); Jessie (1875) married Phillip Roche; Margaret (1877) Sister Philomena; Patrick (1880-1975) married Ada Windel; Emma (1882-1975) married Francis Fitzgibbon; Clement (1885-1952) married Annie Walsh.
