Secretary and safety officer for the day Susan Ducksbury said it was a good way to eliminate the stigma associated with shooting.

“It dispels guns. People who want to try it can in a safe and constructive conditions. It’s like our open day.” Ducksbury said. 

Over her 20 years of experience at the club she says up to 70 people have participated in the day with some registering as a member on the very same afternoon.  

“The culture of shooting is different, a lot more women are involved.”

Up to nine people could shoot across the 50 meter range at the one time. Members of the SSAA were assigned to each newcomer.

“I was not hesitant in coming today,” said Leon Hanegan who brought his two children, aged 15 and 19. 

The family of three, and a friend, were all shooting for the first time on the day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

“It was a really fun day.”
