Coming in as last year’s premiers ANU started with a forceful offensive and scored a goal in the first 15 minutes of the game.
ANU’s stronger players Shelly Watson and Jenna Cartwright, who are recovering from injuries, were unable to play in the match and made for a more balanced opponent on the field.
Goulburn rallied hard and were able to set up good plays in the second half but were unable to equalise the score and break through the defensive shield.
Young player Josie Croker and new team member Sarah Bradley were a stand out on the day.
Secretary Kayleen Pagett says it was a good effort by the newly formed team.
“This team is only a new team. Only five of the players were here from last year. Their efforts have been very pleasing to the coaching staff. Hopefully as the season goes on we’ll see a huge improvement.”
