It was a tight first two quarters for the home team with a heightened competitiveness on the field from the get go. The Swans trailed the Blues by only two pints in the first quarter and five in the second.
Both teams could be seen tackling for possession through the game. The Swans back six were a standout despite the waves of pressure from the opposition. The two full front were also ambitious in securing advantages for the team.
By the third quarter there was a shift in power with the Blues leading the charge by 21 points. The game ended with Swans losing 89-57.
The main goal scorers of the game were Heath Russell with four goals and Daniel Cummins scoring two. Stand out players of the match were Sam Ash, David Nell, Daniel Cummins, James Kent, Cameron Lawson and Clay Woodbery.
Coach Scott Fleming said he saw an improvement in the younger players and hoped the progress continues to grow throughout the remainder of the season.
The Goulburn Swans will be holding sign ups for Auskick and the new U12 club on May 11 and 18 from 4.30-5.30pm at Goodhew Park. The U/12 competition will run on Saturdays from 12pm for players aged nine to twelve. The competition will run for eight to ten weeks.
“Junior sports is fairly important to physical activity and for AFL we think can contribute to that,” Russell said.
“Starting kids early makes it easy to develop their skills and have interest in the game. The competition is a pathway for them.
“The long term plan for the club is to push under 12,14,16 and 18 to feed into the senior team. We’re starting small and hopefully with enough interest in five to ten years we have junior in every age group.”
Auskick will run for 10 weeks from May 28. Games will be held on Sunday mornings at 10am. Those interested can contact Heath Russell on 0438 230 145.
