It’s a real privilege that Peter Vadiveloo will share his rhythms with the Taralga community and as the workshops are supported by the Upper Lachlan Shire Cultural Arts Program, the fee is just $5 per person
- Jan Green
That vibrancy is reflected in its annual Taralga Art Show held over the June long weekend and attracting over 1000 viewers.
The 2017 Show is on June 10-12 at the Taralga Memorial Hall.
Taralga Art Show spokesperson Jennifer Lamb said artists and craftspeople are encouraged to enter works as the sales are always good.
“Last year 64 of the 280 works entered were sold,” Ms Lamb said.
“As well as the prospect of sales, there are two prizes on offer: the $200 People’s Choice, sponsored by RMB Lawyers and the $100 Hangers’ Award, sponsored by Pacific Hydro.”
A special feature of the 2017 Taralga Art Show will be two rhythm and percussion workshops on Saturday 10 June – one for children at 10am-12pm and the other for adults at 1-4pm.
“Dynamic drummer, percussionist and performer Peter Vadiveloo will lead the workshops which involve vocal, body and instrumental percussion. He has been a national and international performer for over 25 years,” Ms Lamb said.
Art Show coordinator Jan Green participated in one of Vadiveloo’s workshops at the recent Canberra Folk Festival said they are a real treat.
“It’s a real privilege that Peter Vadiveloo will share his rhythms with the Taralga community and as the workshops are supported by the Upper Lachlan Shire Cultural Arts Program, the fee is just $5 per person,” Mrs Green said.
Entry forms for the competition are available from Jan Green (tel 4840 6101) and the Facebook page Taralga Art Show. Entry forms must be submitted by 2 June.
Bookings for them can be made by emailing her at greenjs@harboursat.com.au
The Taralga Art Show, which began in 2001, is organised through the Taralga and District Progress Association, and a major sponsor this year this is Mark Bradbury Legal.
