Mick Chalker, the current president of the Brigade, received a medal and bars signifying a fantastic 48 years of service.
Jeff Chalker was rewarded for 39 years service.
Then Lawrie Dunn was recognised for 29 years of service while Brad Sheridan received a medal for 10 years service.
It is great to know that there is this level of experience protecting our community.
A GRADUATION
Brian and Julie Corby recently travelled to Newcastle for the graduation of their daughter, Bridget, from the University of Newcastle and the christening of their grandson, Harrison James.
Bridget graduated with a Bachelor of Business with a major in Human Resource Management, including a semester of International Exchange at Kingston University, London. Bridget is now living and working in Sydney.
Harrison James is the first child of Joshua and Lucy Corby and the fourth grandchild of Brian and Julie Corby and the 12th grandchild of Len and Cecilia Gavin. Harrison was baptised at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, East Maitland by Father Brian Mascord, Vicar General. Matthew Chalker and Amy Girvan were the godparents.
PEONIES A SPECIALITY
Garden Club president Joy says that Dominic Wong and Chris Styles, of “Chinoiserie”, Mittagong, will be guests at the meeting on June 3, and will speak on peony roses and gardening in general.
“Chinoiserie” is said to be a plant collectors garden and covers one and a quarter acres. Names must be in before Saturday, June 3.
To make it simpler for whoever is collecting money before a function, Jackie asks that you put the function date, your name and amount on the envelope before handing it in. June meeting will be $20.
You are given a gentle reminder that subscriptions are due now and there will be no further newsletters if you are still un-financial after the end of May.
It has been suggested that thought be given to a two night trip in 2018 to allow travel to centres further away as nearby centres have mostly been visited.
A SAD LOSS
Lately the Historical Society has lost two staunch members with the passing of Lorraine and Ian Ross during the past week. Ian and Lorraine were present when the Historical Society was formed. Ian became the first president. Later Lorraine also became the society’s president. Lorraine served also as secretary and archives officer. The couple gave much time and work to the society, particularly in the building of Cordingly Cottage.
