Last week, the team forfeited to the Southern Cats because of injuries and too many other players unavailable on the weekend.
Co-coach Brody Willis said things were looking better for this week and they were hoping to put up a good showing against the Tricolours, who sit above the Swans on the competition ladder.
“We should have more players available and we are looking forward to some strong performances from our newer players who are really coming along well in their understanding of what is needed of them in the game,” Willis said.
“Will Neate has been playing and training well and is really picking up the game. So are the other younger players. It is really encouraging to have this mix of younger players and the ones who have been with the team for several years working together and the older guys teaching the younger ones the tricks and skills.
“The last game we played we had a huge win, but this Saturday’s game will likely be a very tough contest. Ainslie is always a strong side.”
On Sunday, the Swans are scheduled to get their Auskick program for 5 to 9-year-olds underway. The club is looking to provide a pathway for future players to progress through the grades and eventually join the senior team.
The program will run for 10 weeks at Goodhew Park. The club is also looking to start a 12s competition on Saturdays, starting at noon, for which the club is seeking players aged 9 to 12.
“We are hoping to get enough players for four or more teams,” Swans president Heath Russell said. “The competition will run for eight to 10 weeks, depending on the team entries.” Interested players and parents can call him on 0438 230 145 for information.
