A beautiful autumn Sunday afternoon, on May 21, presented perfect conditions for the Goulburn Runners and Walkers to tackle a new course around the city. Starting at the end of Clyde St the participants had a smooth start along the newly opened section of Sanctuary Drive before heading cross country to reach the backwaters of Marsden Weir. The group enjoyed beautiful views of the historic Waterworks before joining the river side walking track which was followed eastward until Bellevue St could be accessed.

A zig zag of roads then brought individuals into Citizen and onto Hurst Street, passing many historic homes and tree lined paths, as the course direction reverted west.
Continuing into and along Albert Street saw the group reach the pleasant, shady pathways of Victoria Park before trending northward along View St and another zig zag section to reach the far end of Clyde Street. The procession of individuals were now greeted by the final challenge of the course, the locally named ‘Big Dipper’, with its steep descent followed with an immediate, abrupt ascent. Heaving bodies were willed to the top and were rewarded with a tranquil downhill journey for the remainder of Clyde St to the finish
Fastest time on the day, amongst the runners, was Jaemin Frazer, whose smooth ascent the Big Dipper looked effortless.
The Goulburn Runners and Walkers have an event most Sundays of the year, either in or out of town, and new participants are always welcome. More details can be found on the group’s Facebook site.
