Six NSW high school students are being given the opportunity to travel to historic battlefields in Israel and Greece as part of the 2017 Premier’s Anzac Ambassadors Program.

The program is an initiative funded by ClubsNSW.
The students will travel to Israel for the centenary of the Charge of the Fourth Light Horse Brigade at Beersheba and historic sites at Lemnos in Greece in spring as part of a two-week trip.
To enter, students need to write a 1000-word essay answering the questions: “Why is the Centenary of Anzac important for modern Australia and what lessons are learned from the Battle of Beersheba in 1917?”
ClubsNSW chief executive Anthony Ball said the program aimed to give students a better understanding of the hardships of WWI.
“This is a once-in- a-lifetime opportunity for young people to learn about the contributions and sacrifices made by Anzac soldiers and nurses, and to pass this knowledge onto their peers when they return home,” said Mr Ball.
“ClubsNSW is once again proud to be supporting this annual program.”
Clubs across the state will be called on to encourage students to submit essays for a chance to be selected as one of the six. NSW Minister for Veterans Affairs David Elliott, who will be touring with the group, launched the program this week.
The group leaves Sydney on October 24 and returns November 5. Students can submit their essays by visiting the ClubsNSW webpage, which also contains a full list of terms and conditions.
