We’ve requested the architect consultant review the scope and design of the PAC to make recommendations for changes that could help keep the project within the original budget of $11.4 million. General Manager Warwick Bennett will now proceed with preparation of tender documentation. This will allow us to call for tenders immediately after development consent approval is obtained.
This is a very positive step for the project, and it comes directly from the recently held public meeting in the Council Chambers on May 25. That public meeting was organised to allow the community to voice their support or concerns, and we were overwhelmed with both the huge attendance, and the positivity for the project.
There are of course some hurdles to still overcome – the JRPP need to approve the development application, we need to obtain the grant funding, award a tender for construction, and also approve any extra budget allocation if needed. However we believe we have addressed all the concerns within the development application, and I’m looking forward to moving along with the project!
Blackshaw Road
We had a spirited discussion on turning right into and out of Blackshaw Road at Tuesday night’s meeting. After all things were considered, the decision of the council was to redesign the intersection of Sloane Street and Blackshaw Road to prevent right turns into and out of Blackshaw.
Council will be preparing a plan of the changes and advertising this in the near future, as well as developing signage and informing emergency services and bus companies. Works are scheduled to be undertaken at the end of July.
Windellama SES
On Monday night I had the honour of presenting 12 awards to a number of volunteers, along with NSW SES Southern Highlands action region controller Joanne Humphries. The medals presented included two National Medals and NSW SES Long Service Awards recognising five to 20 years of service – some fantastic achievements.
Kevin Muffett, Noel Sylvester, Margaret Burgoine and Graham Kinder were also awarded a NSW SES Commissioner’s Unit Citation for their contribution to the multi-agency response to the ADFA bus accident that occurred on Sandy Point Road in 2015.
It was a great night to recognise some significant contributions from volunteers within our region – well done!
