Event coordinator Wendy Antony said the committee needed a break “to regroup and rebuild” the festival for next year.
“We are not throwing in the towel, we are regrouping to make it the best festival we can for 2018,” Wendy Antony said.
“Despite the popularity of the first two festivals and the national and international attention it has drawn for Goulburn, events of this size cannot continue to operate with a handful of committee members.”
“It is a lot of work. People have come to expect a good show and I believe it can grow into an enormous event. It comes down to people power and money. That said, we have had great support from the community.
"It is a really unique festival - the only one of its kind in Australia because Goulburn produced George Lazenby, who is the only Bond that Australia has ever had.
SPYfest is held in September each year and planning is underway for SPYfest Goulburn 2018, with the committee hopeful that more volunteers will come forward to assist with the organisation of the event.
“We want to attract others who may be able to help out - they don’t even necessarily have to be on the committee and turn up to meetings - but just be able to help us out,” Mrs Antony said.
SPYfest vice president Julie Judd said the festival was developed to bring the community together and to promote Goulburn as a great place to visit.
“We have been so grateful to our sponsors and thrilled with our special guests and entertainment, but it takes a lot of work to organise the events, seek sponsorship and bring together an event of this size,” Mrs Judd said.
The committee is working towards bringing SPYfest back in 2018 and encourages anyone interested in assisting with the planning, development or sponsorship of the event to email hq@spyfestgoulburn.com.au or call 0421 543 330.
