With hundreds of houses planned, two retirements villages and traffic streaming in and out of the area , Mr Toparis, whose family owns the company, believes it is long overdue.
The new restaurant or cafe will be located on the corner of Franklin Street and Box Avenue, in the Mistful Park subdivision, which is parallel to Crookwell Road.
Mr Toparis expects the premises to be built 12 months after the construction certificate is obtained. The DA was put forward to the Goulburn Mulwaree Council 11 months ago.
“It’s big growth out here. It’s going to be new and one of a kind area,” he said.
Confident it will be well received, he cited The Tillage and Merino Country Estate as close subdivisions, which will benefit from it. Directly across from this space a childcare centre is also underway.
In 2015, Ganter Constructions lodged a DA which included the construction of a childcare centre, supermarket, 111 parking spaces, shops and offices.
Mr Toparis did not comment on the older DA, but said everything constructed in the area by Ganter Constructions will complement each other.
Closer to town the hum of developmental progress continues.
On the corner of Auburn and Bradley Street, a 750 square metre retail space, with up to 12 parking spots, will be built within six to eight weeks. Integrated Building Group manager Tony Boyd said the site is located in a great spot.
“When people first drive into Goulburn it’s a building they’re going to see. It’s an iconic spot,” he said. “The DA was approved several years ago. The council put a lot of time into it, to see what the town wanted.”
Mr Boyd said the former Greengrocer Cafe site, destroyed in a fire in early 2016, will also be complete in four to six weeks. “First housing, now with new developments, it brings people to the town and therefore is great for business,” he said.
