Goulburn defeated ACT in extra time in the NSW Boys Under 13s Hockey Championship match in Armidale on Sunday. Both teams had dominated the early rounds at the championships.

ACT was quick to pressure Goulburn’s keeper Danny Nichols who made several saves in succession. A corner was forced from the rebounds. ACT set the corner scored off a drag flick past Danny’s outstretched glove giving ACT a 1-0 lead with nine minutes left in the half. A quick counter attack resulted in a penalty corner but Goulburn was unable to convert. Goulburn was 1-0 down at half time. Goulburn restarted the game with solid defence with Wil Backhouse supporting Jessie Croker. Goulburn forced a penalty corne but was unsuccessful with the strike. Fletcher Craig then slipped the ball through to Dylan Downey who flicked it high into the net. With 17 minutes left Goulburn was again awarded a penalty corner without success. After some scrappy a high shot toward the goals was stopped by Danny’s glove, but he lost sight of the ball and it dropped into the net behind him. ACT was up 2-1. With just minutes left Goulburn was back in the ACT circle and after a miss-timed shot, Damon Gimbert hit skillful little shot that beat keeper. A full time 2 all deadlock took the game to extra time and a sudden death drop off. In the second minute a penalty corner to Goulburn, saw Dylan Downey drill the ball low into the corner and a 3-2 Championship win.
