The 14-year-old who swapped pedal power for her 150cc Honda CRT150RB has only been competing on the dirt track circuit for about six months, but has been riding a little longer.
Alyssa has followed in what could be considered a family love of two-wheel racing.
Her sister Tamika, brother Alex, and father Lindsay are all keen on two-wheel competition. They are members of the Goulburn Cycle Club but like Lindsay, who is a police motorcycle instructor, they all like the motorised form of riding too and are members of the Goulburn Motorcycle Club.
Alyssa and Alex competed in the Australian Junior Long Track Championships last weekend in Mildura and Alyssa came home with the national title in the 85cc two-stroke and 150cc four-stroke 11- u16 years Junior Girls small wheel and big wheel class.
She also finished seventh overall, racing against the boys.
Her main competitor in the girls was local rider Maddison Busch on a Kawasaki KX85
Alyssa had never ridden the Northwest Victorian Motorcycle Club’s long track circuit before, but on Saturday she pulled two second places behind Maddison. In the first race she lost by about two seconds and the second by .021 sec.
“That race was a real thriller with the two girls racing handlebar to handlebar and the lead changing several times,” Lindsay Wallace said.
In the Sunday racing, the competition was just as close with Alyssa narrowly claiming victory in race three. But in the fourth toward the end of the race, with both girls leaving the rest of the field in their dust, Maddison’s bike had a serious mechanical failure. The Victorian failed to finish, giving victory to Alyssa.
In the final race Alyssa knew that it would be really tough if her rival could get her bike back on track but this did not happen. But to win the championship Alyssa still had to finish in front.
She left nothing to chance, riding hard but not quite on the edge allowing for a smooth win with the second placed rider about half the track behind.
Alyssa does gym and cross-fit training about three days a week for her riding and is mentored by Mark Herfoss and Goulburn Motorcycle Club members.
