Councillors last Tuesday endorsed a plan and decided to commence talks regarding the extension of Tait Crescent and Lockyer Street, at the service centre’s rear. They’re aiming to reduce traffic pressure in the area by creating a second access.
Land acquisition alone is expected to cost $300,000. The road’s construction, factored into the 2018/19 budget, would be additional.
Tuesday’s meeting hear that the developer of a light industry at 10 Tait Crescent intended to start construction “imminently.” As such, there was now an urgency to talks.
On Friday, Mayor Bob Kirk said the project could impact on the land acquisition and it was important to coordinate plans.
“It’s a matter of getting all the ducks in a row,” he said.
Any land acquisition costs in this financial year will be brought forward from the 2018/19 allocation. A further report on costs and land acquisition will be brought back to councillors.
If acquired, the new road would emerge beside Geissler Motors in Finlay Road. The need for a second access for the area was identified in the council’s Employment Land Strategy.
