Stags’ teams will pull on special socks to raise funds and awareness for the two charities they are supporting: Can Assist Goulburn and Love Your Sister.
The socks’ colours represent those who have passed (black), those for who there is hope (white) and the silver lining we look for.
Call to Arms has been a men’s cancer fundraiser, but with the huge number of female players now in the club, the new charity reflects the cross-section.
Love Your Sister is a little different from other cancer charities, and the club likes the message they are spreading. Supporting Can Assist Goulburn is also important as it is in the community.
Game day will see three trophies being played for. The Call to Arms Cup will be played against Soldiers in the men’s league. The Bradley Chisholm Cup will be contested against MBK in honour of late MBK player Bradley Chisholm and is a reminder to all players to seek help and ask each other ‘R U OK?’
The final trophy is the Phil Patton Shield. This is a point score between the Stags and the combined STFA clubs. Phil, along with wife Debbie, were big supporters of local soccer and the Stags. Phil passed away from cancer and this is the club way of saying ‘Thanks, Phil - and we won’t forget you, mate!’
