The school principal, Edwina Turner said she wanted to “impress on people ‘not to ‘dis the students’ ability’ because these students have abilities in so many other areas.” There are 64 students in classes from kinder to year 12. Four years have now passed since the school had a major rebuild with leftover funding from the ‘building the education revolution’.
“The school was practically rebuilt around the children as they continued with their education, with very little interruption. It is a beautiful, modern school now,” Ms Turner said..
Additional funding from the Education Department and Veolia MulwareeTrust helped to fund the sensory garden and outdoor play area that was officially opened last year
Some of the students leaving the school after their Year 12 studies go on to ‘supportive at work placement’. The Crescent School has a large involvement in the transition of students into the workforce. The Coles Logistics Centre in South Goulburn is one larger business that supports the students who are participating in work placement.
Leanne Boyd has been with the school since 1984 and has seen many changes over the years. “The expertise of the staff is always being built up,” she explained. “We are very fortunate that the community supports us in so many ways.”
There are 18 permanent staff, including nine class teachers and nine student support officers, a librarian, principal and a ‘release from face to face teaching officer.’
