During that period more than $2 million of maintenance, including than 40 individual projects will take place to upgrade and renew the railway line from Sydney to Albury.
The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) will carry out the works including ballast cleaning, rail corridor tidy-up works, improvements to rail structures and signalling maintenance.
“This shutdown will see the staff on the ground working around the clock to get the job done quickly and safely in the window, where fewer or no trains will be running,” said General Manager Asset Management, for ARTC’s Interstate Network Brian Green.
“We’d like to thank the community for their patience with us while this important work is delivered and we would also like to ask motorists to take extra care and be cautious of trucks entering and exiting work sites.
“Passenger services such as the XPT and Southern Highlands trains will also be replaced by coaches during the weekend (August 19, 20) – so we are asking the community to please plan ahead and see how they might be impacted by the works.”
