Entries are open for the giant Goulburn 150 Birthday Street Parade on Saturday, March 16.
It promises to be a spectacular event, showcasing the City’s historical evolution and community spirit.
“I am really excited about how planning for the Goulburn 150 Street Parade is coming together and have spoken to a number of groups who are keen to get involved,” Community Birthday Committee chair Carol James said.
“It will be a spectacular event. The parade will follow the evolution of Goulburn, with groups asked to choose a decade that is symbolic for them – such as when they were founded or started – and either dress or decorate a float to suit that period.
“Commentators along the parade route will help tell the story, from our indigenous heritage through to today.
“While showcasing our history is important, the parade will also celebrate our modern day successes and achievements.
“We are keen to hear from all manner of groups and organisations and talk to them about their ideas for taking part.
“The parade gives everyone the opportunity to get involved in Goulburn’s 150th birthday celebrations.
This milestone will only happen once so let’s make it special! “We have some wonderful people involved in the 150th Birthday Committee, including Laraine and Gil Whitehouse who have been busy talking to groups about the parade.
They are doing a wonderful job and I encourage all local groups and organisations to get involved,” Cr James said.
Mayor Geoff Kettle said Goulburn’s 150th Birthday celebrations were receiving interest nationwide and he was expecting an influx of visitors in March next year.
“Goulburn’s birthday has featured in promotions for Canberra’s Centenary and the excitement is building in Goulburn and nationwide,” Cr Kettle said.
“I am expecting some really exciting announcements in the lead up to and during the birthday, which will be very good news for our city.”
“Cr James and the Birthday Committee are doing a tremendous job. The calendar for March next year is jam packed and now we need our community to get involved in the Street Parade.
“If the success of the recent Lilac Festival is a gauge, I am sure it will be a hit.”
