The Goulburn Mulwaree Rotary Book Fair opened on Monday, September 18 and runs until October 1.
Club president Bill Brodie said the Book Fair is eagerly anticipated by locals and usually raises over $10,000 for the club.
As such, apart from the Swap Meet, it is the club’s major annual fundraiser, with all proceeds going to local charities.
“All of this money, together with other money raised during the year, is then donated to local charities,” Mr Brodie said.
He said donations go to local charities including Endeavour Industries, Angels for the Forgotten, the Goulburn Conservatorium Choir and the Goulburn Loco Roundhouse Preservation Society.
“Other groups that received donations included bush fire brigades, local schools and the Salvation Army,” Mr Bill Brodie said.
“Those wishing to donate books can just bring them down to us. All donations of books will be kindly accepted.”
A quick perusal of the shelves revealed there is already a great array of popular fiction and non-fiction books on offer.
Club member Peter Bertram said people look forward to this event each year.
“This event brings out a lot of good will from the community,” Mr Bertram said.
“The prices we ask for are very reasonable but people often pay more than we ask for the books, which is great.”
This year there will be over 30,000 books on offer with prices for them ranging from $2 to $5 each.
The Book Fair is located in the former Hume Fruit Market, with entry via the Ellesmere St car park. It is open every day from 9 to 5pm.
