Goulburn sculptor Cameron Bell has had his work selected for inclusion in the 2017 Artisans in the Gardens exhibition. 

It is a nine-day celebration of the natural world that will showcase a diverse collection of 2000 works representing 44 artists across the various mediums of sculpture, ceramics, glass, photography, jewellery and textiles.

Cameron Bell is delighted his work has been selected for it.

He has been making interesting pieces out of metal for some time, but has only been selling his work in the last five years. 

His workshop contains a collection of scrap metal that he recycles for his work.

“It is just what I find including bolts, pump bodies, kitchen sinks (that I make wings from) and whatever I can get hold of,” Mr Bell said. 

He said the Artisans in the Garden selection came about because someone passing through town bought one of his works at Gallery on Track.

“This person bought one of my dragonflies and she was a friend of one of the curators and then they got in touch with me – it was great,” he said. 

“I am very happy that nine of my dragonflies and four mantis are going up there to be in the Botanic Gardens for this.”

Apart from being selected in various exhibitions, he is also getting commission work now.

“I sold some pieces at Sculpture on the Clyde at Batemans Bay and from that I am also getting commission work, so that was a great opportunity,” he said. 

“The Taralga Art Show was great exposure too." 

“I often have work in Gallery of Track - there is some fantastic stuff by many artists in there.”

Artisans in the Gardens runs from October 14-22 at historic Lion Gate Lodge (off Mrs Macquaries Road, in the Royal Botanic Garden) and is suitable for all members of the family.

All 2000 works are for sale — with prices ranging from $50 to $20,000. Entry is free.
