“My [heterosexual] friends can throw a party and marry, but the difference is they sign a legally recognised certificate that’s taken seriously,” Shelby Marks said.
In dealing with any official agency, “if I can say she is my wife, we will be taken more seriously.
“I’m just thankful [Koda] is growing up in this generation and not in mine. I remember a school friend who copped a lot of bullying for her same-sex parents. But all of his friends say, ‘Koda has two mums! How lucky!’
“I see that as a good thing, but again … the ability to get married will take that relationship seriously.”
