Garden palette
What started with jonquils and blossoms has spread to the daffs, winter roses, hyacinths and multitude of green buds framing each garden “room” and sweeping green lawns. Hyacinths, japonica, snowdrops, flowering almond, apple, plum are each now splashing across our canvas – and it’s only the beginning with the iris, tulips, quince … just waiting for their own exhibition! Perfect for the artist or photographer to mix their colours.
Our grand old elms and gleditsia are again awake, offering us a thin green budded haze high against the sky. Imagine – each year for more than 150 years this exciting sign is the start of that very welcome shady canopy for our summertime gallery!
Not to be outdone, the vegetable garden beds have had their winter overhaul, with edges and new plantings sketched in ready. With our fruit trees doing well we will continue to see a great home made bounty for the collective Goulburn palate.
Stallholders
Stallholders for our annual Rare Plants And Growers Garden Fair (Sunday, November 5) should contact us as soon as possible to book their spot as well as to be a part of our statewide advertising. Please contact Dawn Giles on 0409953859 or Ros Loftus 0414951955 or 48214741 or by email riversdale@nationaltrust.com.au. It promises to be another fantastic event, with specialist talks, tours and practical demonstrations, our usual hospitality of a food court and barbecue, plenty of stalls and plants for sale as well as our official National Trust Gift Shop. It is great value at just $10 adult entry and $7 concession.
Photo exhibition
We are very proud to be hosting a special photographic exhibition ‘In The Garden,’ beginning November 5 at the Garden Fair. The Goulburn Camera Club members’ exhibition will showcase diverse garden photography on display for two weeks and all works will be for sale. For more information contact goulburncameraclub@gmail.com .
Historical lace
Work continues inside as well as out, with careful high resolution close up photographing of our historic lace collection with the help of the NSW Powerhouse Museum. This painstaking work imaging each item of the collection that dates back to 1790-1920, will help experts determine type and origin of lace – all in the careful hands of our Lizzie Underwood and Cliff Giles!
Pitching in
It was our pleasure to again welcome seven Horticultural Diploma students from the Goulburn Campus of Illawarra TAFE in late August. We are proud of our longstanding working partnership that helps build practical local skills and encourage a love of professional gardening in our community. Thank you George and Ros!
