RARE WILDCAT SIGHTING
It is a common thing in Gunning for rare beasts to grace the main street as their owners stop for coffee and lunch. ‘What kinds of beasts?’ you might ask and the answer is 1960’s classics of the American kind.
A 1964 Buick Wildcat to be precise, a vehicle that did not come here by normal means to this land, but by an importer in Queensland in 2016.
The vehicle is owned by Qantas pilot Michael Sterling, an associate of Peter Bates. It is left hand drive and in original condition. Michael, who intends to restore it after acquiring parts, decided to purchase it after realizing he loves old American cars and that life is too short to wait.
It is a 360hp 425 cubic inch nailhead backed by a Super Turbine 400 three speed. It is rarity now but will be truly unique once restored.
ENDANGERED FISH
Oolong Creek, Dalton is the newest find of a population of endangered Southern Pygmy Perch, one of only four in NSW.
The new Dalton Progress Association, Greening Australia and Gunning District Landcare are attempting to restore the creek back to its natural habitat in an effort to save the fish.
At this annual event, the town gets together to replant a creek section.
There were over 20 volunteers this year, planting 120 species of grass and 20 shrubs.
ENHANCED PARKING
Council staffers Peter Smith and Steve Poidevin have just marked out a dedicated disabled parking area on Yass Street, adjacent to the Courthouse premises of Gunning Community Care.
On hand to welcome the initiative was Michael Vaughan who noted that this is a great idea and will be invaluable for those for needing ready access to GCC facilities.
GUEST SPEAKER
The Mission Lunch at St Edmund’s Church is on this Friday from 11am.
Former rector John Barnes will be guest speaker.
