As a child his mother took him to the Claremont Speedway in Perth, and as his love for music grew, so did his interest in racing.
“Music and racing are two of my loves in life. It’s one of those thing when it gets into your blood it stays with you,” Brand said.
“Its an adrenaline buzz. Even if I’m coming last it doesn’t matter. I’m out on the track and I have a big grin on my face.”
Having raced quarter midgets to V8 utes in Bathurst, he was never able to race for a complete season due to his busy music career.
Now Brand will be the main performer for the Legend Cars Australia October event Rock N Rumble, something he described as “Christmas come early”.
The day will include a car show in Belmore Park, a cruise to the Showgrounds, a corporate luncheon, a three hour concert and Speedway racing.
Organiser and Legend Cars Australia director John Dennehy said he was excited to make the dream, discussed for many years, a reality.
“This has never been done before, a large concert at the Speedway,” Dennehy said.
Brand’s performance scheduled to commence at 3pm will include local acts such as Jamie Aguis.
Currently working on his 20 year anniversary double CD, he plans to play a variety of his music on the day.
“A lot of the time when people stick their neck out for the first event it’s a big gamble,” he said in reference to the inaugural event.
“I’d encourage people to get behind this concept. You never never know what it could turn into. When the town takes a step of faith and sets an event up a little bit different [it] can really grow.”
Rock N Rumble will be held on October 14.
Dennehy thanked Goulburn Police, Goulburn Mulwaree Council, the Speedway committee and Legend Cars Australia staff for the support over the past four months.
Tickets can be purchased online. Prices range from $20-$40. Children under 6 are free.
