Brigade News
The Towrang Brigade has had a number of changes in the past few months. Our captain resigned due to health issues. Phillip Ohlback has now taken on that responsibility and Clinton Landow is now the senior deputy captain. Our president and secretary have also resigned for personal reasons. Matthew Whittaker has taken on the role of president and Danielle Marsden-Ballard is our new secretary.

The 2017-2018 bushfire season commences on October 1. If you wish to do some hazard reduction before the really hot weather conditions arrive, you will need to apply to the brigade for a permit to burn. Contact Phillip Ohlback on 0438 298 271 for details on how to get a permit issued. Once you have the permit, the procedure is the same - contact Fire Com, notify your neighbours, send a text prior to lighting up. Be aware of weather condition - the issue of a permit does not give you the freedom to go ahead and light up regardless. Be careful with slashers/mowers, angle grinders, welders, vehicles in long grass and don't throw out that cigarette butt - stub it out carefully and take it back home with you to dispose of properly.

A Get Ready Day in preparation for the upcoming bushfire season was held at the Towrang Fire Station on September 16 and 17 and also throughout the state. If you missed out or would like some more information on how to prepare your property or what to do in the case of an outbreak or if you want to become a volunteer, please come to the fire station on a Tuesday evening from 7-9.30pm and have a chat. Thanks to all the volunteers who gave up a day to attend the station and assist with this event.
A newsletter and donation form has been hand delivered to all residents in our area. If you have not received one, please ring the duty phone (0438 298 271) and we will post it to you. We rely on your annual donation to help keep our brigade operational and thank everyone who contributes.
Thanks to everyone who assisted at the catering during the Amcross event held last month. Many hands made light work as we cooked and sold steak, sausages, hotdogs and hot chips to a lot of hungry motorcycle competitors. Thanks also to Goulburn Motorcycle Club for asking us to help.
Brigade information will be uploaded to the Towrang website - www.towrang.org. This will include training schedules, the fire danger meter and notification of TOBANs.
International Food Night
Once again we had another fun-filled international food night at the end of August. Thirty-five people came and brought along a wonderful array of foods from other countries – Guinness stew from Ireland, toad in the hole from England, veal scallopini, vegetables from France, foccacia from Italy, pavlova from Australia or NZ (depending on your affiliation), florentine biscuits from Italy, apfelstrudel from Austria, shoofly pie from America - and more! We will definitely be back again next year.
Carrick Solar proposal
Nick and Chris Guzowski from Photon Energy joined in a community meeting to describe in further detail their concept plan for a 200ha solar farm for the Towrang Valley. Discussions centred around mininising the impact to our pristine rural environment. A good understanding of how they can become a good part of our community was achieved. In general we look forward to the progress of this project and we thank Nick and Chris for their time in coming along and presenting their proposal. For more information, go to Photon Energy's website - www.photonenergy.com.au/current-projects/carrick-solar-farm
Summer Pie drive
A summer pie drive will commence at the end of October with delivery towards the end of November. This will be a great time to get in some fruit pies, party pies and sausage rolls, mini quiche, slices and cakes for all those parties that come up at this time of the year. Also a great idea for Christmas presents - gift wrap some fruit pies with a jar of cream for those hard-to-buy-for people you know. Further details in next month's column, order forms will be emailed out to those on our listings or send a request to towrangnoticeboard@yahoo.com.au.
Yuletide Mail Trail
It's time to start thinking about your gate/letterbox decorations for Christmas. This year we have decided to waive the fee/form idea but still have a small, friendly competition. If you wish to participate in the competition, send an email to towrangnoticeboard@yahoo.com.au so we can put you on a list and our community judging panel will drive around and decide on a winner. If you don't wish to be involved in the competition, please decorate your gates anyway. It is wonderful to drive along the roads and see the thought and effort that people put in to make this a festive area.
Council Outreach Meeting
This year the Council Outreach Meeting is on Thursday November 16 from 6.30pm. Come along, meet the councillors and staff and make your concerns and queries known. All questions are to be sent to council at least one week prior to the meeting by phoning 4823 4486 or emailing council@goulburn.nsw.gov.au. Alternatively, the Progress Group will be compiling a list at our October meeting and would be happy to include your questions. Send an email to towrangnoticeboard@yahoo.com.au
