The Goulburn Regional Hockey working party has picked a preferred site for a new hockey venue in the district.
Carr Confoy has been named as the most appropriate venue for the new hockey grounds and possible amenities block.
Working party member and Goulburn Mulwaree councillor Peter Walker said the site would be constructed to complement the existing sports and teams who regularly use the space.
“We’re mindful of the area and do not want to encroach on any other sporting group that uses Carr Confoy,” Cr Walker said.
“The working party are appreciative of the Goulburn Workers Club giving a five year extension to the lease.”
About 16 sites across the district made the shortlist. Two water based fields and a grass field, to hold state championship games, has been suggested as part of the upgrade.
The working party are in the process of submitting the recommendation to the council. Cr Walker said he hoped the suggestion will be favourably received.
Councillor Andrew Banfield, Upper Lachlan Shire councillor Paul Culhane and hockey representatives make up the working party.
This decision follows news Crookwell hockey player Emily Smith has been selected as the new captain of the Hockeyroos and the Goulburn Geckos snatch the ACT Capital League title.
“It's a hub of the hockey world. Kids from everywhere at all age levels are representing the state in one way or another. We need better facilities,” he said.
The working party plans to present its findings and hold discussions for the upcoming Goulburn Hockey annual federal meeting.
