Band time Slots for the ‘Rock For Docks’ event have been announced and over 200 tickets have been sold already.
“It is going to be one gigantic rock fest not to be missed,” said the organiser of the event, Mick Spencer. “We have sold over 200 tickets already and we will limit it to about 300, so there will be some tickets at the door as long as they have not sold out already,” he said. “All the bands are looking forward to it.”
Spencer said Anthony ‘Docketts’ Coll was his best mate and a great young guitarist in Goulburn. “Docketts was a well-known and much-loved young musician,” he said, “who died in September last year. I decided we needed to do something for him – to have a tribute night – to get some bands together to play to honour his memory.”
The tribute concert will be on this Saturday, October 14 at the Goulburn Bowling Club, with six local bands playing.
“It is basically a tribute night to remember a fantastic guy and a great guitarist,” Spencer said. “It started out as a tribute night – not as a fundraiser – but it has come together really well, so we now are selling tickets at the door to raise money for Beyondblue.”
All the bands are donating their time and there are some great groups on the bill including: Sweet Mercy, Smoke n Mirrors, Monkey Busters, the Kathryn Hartnett Band, Dirtypop and Twisted Logic. The night will start about 5pm and go until late.
Spencer said it would be a night of great rock music, reflection and remembrance. “All of the bands intend to make this a night Docketts would be proud of,” he said. “I want to thank them for donating their time and energy to make this happen.”
Fellow band member Scott Woodhouse recalled Docketts as a bloke who was a great guitarist in the band Smoke n Mirrors.
“Luke Wheeldon had been teaching him at the Rock Con and he was like-minded to us musically. He liked those old metal bands such as Motley Crue, Guns n Roses, so we gave him a crack and he was great,” Woodhouse said.
“He was also a good mate, a gentle soul. We all hung out together when we could. Smoke n Mirrors went for about six years and won the Battle of the Bands a few years ago and supported Mental As Anything.
“He was a good bloke and we miss him every day.”
The night kicks off at about 5pm with hour-long sets for each band. Tickets cost $5 tickets and are available at the door. This is an 18+ only event. The lineup and scheduled show times are:
- 5.15-6.15pm Monkey Busters
- 6.30-7.30pm The Kathryn Hartnett Band
- 7.45-8.45pm Dirtypop
- 9-10pm Twisted Logic
- 10.15-11.15pm Sweet Mercy
- 11.30pm-12.30am Smoke n Mirrors
