There was a fantastic turnout on Wednesday evening for the Summer Cycling Season and the Acciona Gunning Wind Farm Graded Scratch Series at Breadalbane.

The course started at Breadalbane and riders made the steady climb to the rail bridge at the top of the Cullerin Range before the turnaround and the fast run back to the village.

A Grade was a tight with no one able to make any decisive move and ended with a four up sprint to the line. Callum Emmerton was the first to fade, with nothing separating Michael Beard, Jacob Emmerton or Glen Apps as they crossed the line. The judges gave the win to Jacob Emmerton with Glen Apps second and Michael Beard third.

Despite the one-minute head start, the small B Grade group was nearly caught by the chasing C Grade riders. Gavin Moroney managed to shake off Gary Sheehy to make it two wins from two races. Phil Champion finished third.

Mark Stutchbury went one better than his last race, winning C Grade in a tight sprint finish. Shannon Apps finished second and Nadine Moroney third.

After missing the start in D Grade, Fiona Berry fought her way back into the race to catch the front runners at Muttmuttbilly Creek and then drove the peloton along Poplar Straight. Peter Jackson and Ted Goad positioned themselves for the final sprint into the village, but it was Fiona Berry who caught them napping to out-sprint them to the line. Ted Goad and Peter Jackson ended up tying for second.

Thanks to the volunteers from the timekeeper Mrs Bush, Chief Commissaire Phil Bush, traffic controllers Bluey Emmerton and Chris Berry to follow car driver and first aid officer Andrew Oberg. Next Wednesday racing is back at Breadalbane again for the final round of the Acciona Gunning Wind Farm Series. Sign on by 6pm at the church and racing starts at 6.30pm.
