The course will erupt if the local dog is able to win the race tomorrow as he is raced by a host of first time owners from on the land including a couple of shearers.
Known as “Snoopy”, Quoted Dynasty is raced by the Razor Gang syndicate including Shearers, Ray Meredith and Caleb Cummins, Farmers, Ron and Krissy Waddell, Mary and Lisa Francis, Danny and Trish Cummins, Doug and Collene Elliott and Laurie and Mary Bulmur.
Builders Gary and Erin Coby, Andrew Bulmur and painters Simon and Danielle Green also make up the syndicate. Seven of these owners come from the sheep town of Taralga, situated between Goulburn and Oberon.
Trainer Denice Warren is aiming to secure her first Goulburn Cup, one race that has so far eluded her. Husband Errol a local bookmaker for four decades and a Director (Vice-President) of the club for the same period has Willie Blues (second reserve) in the cup, but a win by Quoted Dynasty will be just as pleasing.
Running a near record last month at the track Quoted Dynasty (pictured) led all the way in his heat after being pressured throughout. This race won’t be any easier with speed galore on his outside but his ability to run time and compete to the end will keep him in the action right to the finish.
Warren also has Silent Sonny, a former QLD sprinter who has been successful down here winning races at Nowra, Bulli, Goulburn and Wentworth Park.
He has plenty of early brilliance and will be up front for a long way.
Yass trainer, Neil Staines could have a huge day with major chances in both the cup and the Fireball final.
Staines has Slamming Thunder (box 1 ) in the cup after he ran a scorching 24.58 in his heat. He is a very strong sprinter who is not really suited by the rails box and would have been far better drawn out wide.
He ran fourth in a heat of the cup last year but has been able to secure a position in the big one for 2017.
Staines also has the marvellous chaser, Spiders Brother in the Fireball final (race six), a race he won last year. The dog won his heat last week, which at start 102 was his 47th race win.
The dog excels at Goulburn, having now won 11 races from 15 starts on the track and takes on a real hot field of speed dogs in the Fireball.
As is the case every year, there are always a few surprises and some shock defeats in the heats as was the case again this year.
Lagoon Pirate impressed in an all the way flying 24.68 heat win and displayed hot speed through the first two sections of his win.
Ideally drawn in box seven, the Sharon Webster dog will get every hope from the wide draw and is a live chance of taking out the cup.
Sharon is one of six lady trainers in this year’s race, a race that has seen both Ruth Matic and Christene Oldfield win consecutive cups over the years.
Other female trainers represented this year are Donna Campbell with Big Black, who is perfectly placed in the eighth, and Gunning trainer, Jodie Lord, who have both Flyright and Champion Model, the winner of this year’s Canberra cup.
The Goulburn Workers Club is now in its fifth year of sponsorship with the greyhound club and have been loyal supporters of the club and the sport even through last year’s dramatic Baird close down of the industry.
The Cup is race eight on Tuesday and will be run at 5.04p.m. with a very strong supporting program.
Also Workers Club members who show their membership card at the gate will receive free entry.
Workers Club Goulburn Cup – 440m at 5.04 pm.
- SLAMMING THUNDER; Set the time standard with a scorching 24.58 heat win handling the eight box superbly. His strike rate from the one box is not good and lack of early brilliance may prove his down fall. Is strong and will need all the breaks.
- QUOTED DYNASTY: Can run brilliant times as shown at Nowra, Newcastle and Goulburn last month when running 2/10th’s off the track record. Under pressure early in the heat before running 24.79 and will be kept busy in this with speed near him. One of the major hopes.
- CHAMPION MODEL; Canberra Cup winner in September and looking to do what the 2015 winner, Let it Develop did winning the Canberra and Goulburn cups in the same year both trained by Jodie Lord. Has early pace and strength and will be in the action again.
- SILENT SONNY; Former QLD dog who likes to roll along in front. Shared lead to the turn when found Champion Model too strong in heat. The pressure of this race may bring him undone.
- JOCK COLLEY; One of the surprise finalists after running on when second in heat to Quoted Dynasty. Awkward draw in a classy line-up will test him right out.
- FLYRITE; Another who shocked when second in heat to Lagoon Pirate. Former Victorian who was having first run for the Lord kennel. Can only improve on the heat run but from this draw against these may prove to be too bigger hurdle.
- LAGOON PIRATE; Flashy white dog who led all the way to run a flying 24.68 in heat and fastest first and second sections which is vitally important in this field. Had won previous three at Wentworth Park and is ideally drawn. Will stay clear of trouble and a major winning chance.
- BIG BLACK; Has a very good record and on pace all the way when second to Slamming Thunder. Will get more of a cosy run from this ideal draw which connections wanted. Ran scorching time at Bulli last month and is the knockout dog.
- ZIPPING SPRING; (1st reserve) Form was ordinary coming into this series and will be fully tested if starts.
- WILLIE BLUES; ( 2nd reserve) lacked the early speed in heat from the one box and did best work late. Would need a lot of favours in running.
- SELECTIONS; Lagoon Pirate 1. Quoted Dynasty 2. Champion Model 3. Big Black 4.
