Soldiers Warriors are stamping their mark on the second grade Goulburn District Cricket Association competition for 2017- 8 as one of the teams to watch. Also impressive in the grade are Bowlo Rats, who were playing on the next field around, at Carr Confoy Park on Saturday. Soldiers Warriors were playing the Hibo Colts on Carr Confoy 3.

Hibo Colts won the toss, which was all the more important because of the high chance that rain could interrupt play. They chose to bat first, with the Warriors only having eight players on the field for the start of play. This meant that there were more gaps to hit the ball through and a high run rate early could prove advantageous if rain reduced the number of overs.
Liam Mullin's and Tim Elliott were scoring freely taking the score to 0 for 70 in the 14 overs before Jestin Jacob bowled Tim Elliott for a well made 40. Mullins continued to score freely and as drinks came the Warriors also had two more players turn up.
Soon after drinks Warriors captain Jobin Thomas trapped Mullins lbw for 65 with the score at two wickets down for a healthy 136 off 21 overs. Danyon Bush became Thomas's second wicket, bowled for 27. Two more wickets followed with Shreedharan Sreejesh taking an amazing caught and bowled to dismiss the Hibo Colts Captain Josh Wearne for eight and Ben Brown bowled for one.
Callum Smith and James Kent made their presence felt before Jimmy Gill came into the attack, after turning up late. Gill trapped trapped Kent lbw for 25 and Andrew Hopkins had Smith, caught for 26. Gill caught Max Flack for three off the bowling of Hopkins, Gill also had Harry Kristan bowled for a duck. Not out was Angus Regterschot on four runs. Hibo Colts finished with a very strong 223 runs.
Warriors inning started with some big hitting from Sreejesh and Thomas before Thomas was caught behind for nine off a Callum Smith bowl. That brought Jestin Jacob to the crease and Sreejesh and Jacob punishing the bowling for a 100 run partnership in 14 overs before Jacob was caught behind for 65 off 35 balls with seven, fours and three, sixes. Abdul Raheem soon followed stumped by wicket keeper Tim Elliott for a duck. Warriors were sitting at 3 for 138 in the 19th over going to drinks for the score at 157 with Mani Chahal and Sreejesh looking to finish the game quickly. They punishing the bowling before Sreejesh was caught by James Kent for 77 off 55 balls including 13, fours.
Chahal saw the game out scoring 41 from 21 balls to push Warriors past the target to 231 runs with five wickets down in the 29th over. Sreejesh was man off the match with 77 runs and two wickets for 33 off 8 overs.
