The Southern Joint Regional Planning Panel (JRPP) has set a date to return to Goulburn and review the Performing Arts Centre (PAC) development application five months after its deferral.
On December 6, the JRPP will hold a closed briefing at 12.30pm in the Goulburn Mulwaree Council chambers for a determination at 2pm.
The PAC deferral was a unanimous decision by panelists Mark Grayson, Renate Brooks and Chair Pam Allan.
Reasons for the deferral in July include: car parking, heritage impacts, conservation and work impacting surrounding buildings, disability access and building heights.
As part of the concluding statements Chair Pam Allan said the panel was looking for an “adaptive reuse of an existing building” and identified the project was “very important” to the district.
Mayor Bob Kirk said council staff have worked hard to address the problems of the JRPP and the community.
“I feel [we] are more prepared for this meeting. I am feeling quietly confident as we approach this meeting, and am hopeful we will have an approval to work with as we head into 2018,” Cr Kirk said.
General manager Warwick Bennett said the council had employed a number of independent specialist consultants to look at the concerns addressed by the planning panel.
“Council believes that we have now adequately addressed these issues and we are confident of a positive result,” Mr Bennett said.
The council, which has spent $700,000 on this project so far, did not respond when questioned what will happen if the JRPP refuses the development application again.
If approved, the PAC will be housed in the McDermott Centre.
