Goulburn Heritage Group member David Penalver will deliver the talk at 10.30am this Thursday, November 23 at the Goulburn Soldiers Club.
It is part of an ongoing series of talks presented by the Goulburn and District Historical Society.
Mr Penalver said his talk would outline Australia’s involvement in that war.
“It is a talk and also a discussion,” Mr Penalver said.
“It will cover broadly – why Australia was involved in that war, what we actually did while we were there and lead into a broader discussion about what did we actually achieve?
“I will be outlining the circumstances of that war - not a series of facts and dates of battles, etc – but the human sides of this war.
“I want to recount the suffering on both sides for everybody in every war because it is not just the soldiers fighting, but the families and others who are affected by it.”
Mr Penalver said his interest in the subject stems from various visits to the country.
“I have personal, artistic and philanthropic interests in the country,” he said.
“I have visited the country a number of times, I am interested in the history of the war and I have done a lot of drawing there as well,” he said.
Mr Penalver has produced some fine sketches from his Asian travels.
“I also spent a week at an orphanage, working with orphans and their carers near the border of the north and south,” he said.
