A wonderful collection of vintage machines of all types delighted patrons.
There was an increased number of trucks, motors and tractors, with an added attraction this year of a B7 Fowler Road locomotive, which created a lot of interest.
The car section was held again with cash prizes going to six happy motoring enthusiasts. The Peoples Choice was won by Peter Mills, Picton with his 1947 Ford Delux.
The talented family group The Stringers entertained during Saturday and will be returning in 2018. Thanks to all supporters – the entire profit from the day go to the Showground Co-operative.
SPECTACULAR LIGHTS
Last Friday a group of Taralga residents joined others from Crookwell and Goulburn to travel to Cessnock on Pitts Coach to be dazzled by the Christmas Light Display at the Hunter Valley Gardens.
The gardens, owned and maintained by the Roche family, were fragrant with the scent of hundreds of roses, star jasmines and other shrubs in bloom.
After seeing the garden on a pleasant day it was back to the motel for dinner before a return to the spectacular garden where the features were lit in a dazzling array of colours.
Saturday was a busy day that began with a tour of the tempting chocolate factory. Many succumbed before going on to a cheese tasting. Guests sat at a table and were led from a cottage type cheese through brie, cheddar and a rind to a mild blue cheese.
Next on the agenda was a wine tasting when an informative Kate met the group and told of the beginning of the Mount Pleasant Winery in the late 1800s. The early planted vines survive but the winery has been extended so that different types of wine are produced in different areas. Guests were led through the winemaking area with its gigantic vats before tasting a sample of several wines.
A sumptuous Christmas Dinner was a fitting finale to a full day.
A detour on the journey home called at the restored cottage built by convict labour in 1836-40 for ticket-of-leave man, Peter Fagan. The lovely sandstone cottage was home to the family until 1920-21.
The cottage was home for a few years to Henry Kendall, the poet, who had been befriended by the Fagan brothers. It fell into disrepair and was due to be demolished but was purchased and restored by the Brisbane Waters Historical Society. It was then named as the Henry Kendall Cottage.
