The 128-Test stalwart was not thrilled with the wet and muddy track at Edinburgh University that greeted the Wallabies on Tuesday morning.

Nor was a phone call from Michael Cheika to the Scottish Rugby Union enough to stop the Wallabies from being booted off their training field because of wet conditions before the most important session of the week .

Cheika and other Wallabies officials were privately seething they were only given 90 minutes notice they would not be able to train at Peffermill Playing Fields before an afternoon session on Tuesday.

The reason? The University of Edinburgh had a fixture booked on the same field the following day against Durham University.

Never mind that the world's third-best team was in town, groundsmen and the SRU were adamant the Wallabies couldn't train there because they might rip up the field.

Moore was one of many players who were annoyed by the situation and let fly at the pitch that greeted the Wallabies, describing it as "disappointing".

"It was probably one of the poorest surfaces I've ever seen actually," Moore said. "It felt like the Amazing Race a bit there ... darting around different fields.

"It was very slippery. We tried to do some drills on the side but it was very, very difficult. It was difficult to get any purchase. We had to do our best on the artificial surface."

Cheika has created a no-excuses Wallabies culture and while the Australian team's schedule may have been thrown out of whack, Moore stressed it could not be pointed to as a factor if the side plays poorly on Saturday against Scotland.

"One thing we pride ourselves on as a team is to have no excuses about anything," Moore said. "That's probably the message we are trying to get across because what you face, particularly away from home, you can't use as an excuse for your preparation."

In farcical circumstances, the Wallabies were forced to train for periods behind the try areas and among the leaves near a tree line.

At one point, there was a laughable offer to train on the side of a small hill, with a gradient similar to that of some English cricket ovals.

The pitch itself was very damp and soft - a result of constant rain in Edinburgh since the team arrived on Sunday afternoon.

The Wallabies' were due for a day off on Wednesday but as it stands, do not have a satisfactory training venue for Thursday, just two days out from the showdown with Scotland.

Cheika was absent from team meetings during the day because he was on the phone trying to find a new venue.

There was an offer for the Wallabies to move their session to a field next to Murrayfield, the venue for the weekend's match, but they declined because they were suspicious someone from the Scotland camp might be looking in at the closed training.

The team completed their session on an artificial pitch some distance from their original venue.

Players speak repeatedly about preparing the same way every week but this hiccup will no doubt throw a spanner in the works and it will be interesting to see if it affects the team's performance in their last match of the spring tour.
