Her name will be added to the cup’s honour roll after a blistering performance, where she finished two and a half lengths in front of outsider Jock Colley in second and a further one and three-quarter lengths in front of Slamming Thunder third in a scorching 25.60.
Starting a 7/4 favourite, Champion Model led all the way, simply having too much early brilliance for her rivals.
Champion Model completed the Canberra Cup – Goulburn Cup double in the same year as did 2015 winner Let It Develop, both trained by Jodie Lord.
Champion Model has now won 13 races from 23 starts and Lord expects the bitch to reach Group status and be successful at that level in the months ahead.
The winner is owned by Clay Mullens and will now likely contest the up- coming Xmas Gift at Wentworth Park next month.
Runner-up Jock Colley ran a super race and his trainer John Jones said he just delighted to be there on the day and to run a place was a great thrill.
Slamming Thunder was beaten for early pace and did his best work late for third. Local hope Quoted Dynasty was position right behind the winner to the home turns before fading out.
The winner collected a $15,000 first prize cheque and along with the gold cup was presented by Workers Club Director, Tony Dawson who stated they have been delighted with the coverage and relationship with the club and look forward to many more years of sponsorship.
The Goulburn club also made a special presentation to Tony and his directors for their continued support and commitment to the club and faith in the industry in the region after a tough time last year.
The other major event of the day was the Palmerbet Fireball which saw a hot speed field of some of the best short-coursers in the State.
Sentimental favourite was Spiders Brother who was looking to win it for the second year and make it 48 career race wins but he just fell a little short after being outside the lead to the turn wound up in fourth place.
The winner of the four year old, Expressive for Sydney trainer Craig Chappelow who almost started the dog in the cup,” I decided to switch back to the 350m of the Fireball at the last moment”, Craig explained.
His decision was justified as Expressive came from near last to rail home to victory over Too Good Thommo and Sir Duggie.
The run was exceptional having to come from so far back to run such a high quality field down.
