It was looking like a tough day for Hibo Green, when they could only muster seven players but Gold took pity and sent them into bat.
Jason Maberly was subdued (for him) defending the good rocks instead of trying to belt them, while Robert Ings (22) worked the ball around and frustrated the bowlers before Glenn Taylor drew Ings into a shot he tried to retract verbally, whilst still in the process of hitting.
Josh Cooper joined Maberly and outscored him in their 57 run partnership before playing on to Vipin Pa for 28.
Drinks did Maberly in, as straight after he charged past a Glenn Taylor delivery to be stumped for 44 and leave Hibo Green 4/110.
Spectator Jacob Morison pulled on the pads and with some unexpected blasting from James Dyring (25) took the score to 154 before Glenn Taylor slipped one through Dyring.
Jarrod Young (18*) joined Morison and lifted the spirits of the Greens as they passed 180 before Smith returned to rattle the stumps ending Greens innings on a respectable 187.
Glenn Taylor did the damage with figures of 3/37, while Smith’s return gave him respectable figures of 2/22 and Langham bowled without luck for figures of 1/37 as the wet weather made bowling difficult.
Hibo Gold were well positioned having to chase with only five fieldsman to beat but were down one batsman themselves as Dean Jackson’s hamstring was hit by the metaphorical snipers bullet, whilst fielding and took no further part in the game.
Jason Maberly and Jarrod Young attacked the stumps and took the early wickets of Sam Kent, Brad Ehrke and Connor Deighton while form batsman Genn Taylor played a lovely shot straight to the fieldsman and Gold were in trouble at 4/22 after 9 overs.
Dave Smith and Tom Taylor knuckled down and batted Gold out of trouble with an 83 run partnership before Jacob Morison made the essential breakthrough with the final ball of his spell to bowl Smith for 42.
Tom Taylor kept scoring but unfortunately had to leave early and retire his innings on 44 leaving Gold struggling at 7/127. Liam Langham worked the ball around and Green gave away sundries however the run-rate continued to climb and Green were able to take the final wickets to dismiss Gold for 150 in the 39th over for a hard earned 37 run victory.
Jarrod Young 3/24 and Jason Maberly 1/14 caused the early damage while Brandon Courts 2/16 finished off the lower order but congratulations to James Dyring who took his maiden wicket.
This Saturday Hibo Gold faces Hibo Colts on Carr Confoy Two (CC2), Hibo Green have a tough challenge against Bowlo Rats on CC3 and Soldiers Warriors play Super Stags on CC1.
