She has worked at catholic schools in Sydney, Yass and Goulburn where she held varied roles as a coordinator, vice-principal, and principal.
Mrs McManus started teaching at St Joseph’s Girls High School in Kogarah, Sydney, in the 1980’s and commenced her first principal’s position at St Joseph’s Primary School in Goulburn in 2008.
Her teaching area is mathematics but she has also taught english, science, PDHPE and religious education.
“I believe excellent teachers and excellent teaching have a powerful and sensational effect on student achievement.” said Mrs McManus.
“I want to ensure that we are building capacity in our teachers to be the best they can be, so Trinity students can receive the best education possible.”
Mrs McManus identified the need for individuality in a school environment.
“Before excellent learning can take place, we need to ensure we have excellent relationships with our students,” she said.
“It is so important that as teachers, we know our students and how they learn and who they are as people.
“My focus will firmly be on the students, teachers and families working in partnership to achieve the best outcomes for our Trinity students.”
Mrs McManus also outlined some other goals she will bring to the school.
“I want to ensure a strong partnership with St Joseph’s and St Peter and Paul’s Primary Schools by establishing a K-12 educational pathway for all our students.
“Over the last five years one of the biggest changes has been the increase in mental health issues for our students.
“Inquiry-based and self-directed learning encourages students to take responsibility for their learning in a changing world.”
When asked what she would do away from teaching, Mrs McManus said, “I have always worked for just outcomes - so I probably would have been a lawyer, but my first passion is learning.”
